Girls nights are a must and they do the soul good. Last night I had a wonderful girls night with my mom and sister in-law at Board and Brush New Albany This place is a fantastic way to get creative, get destructive, and get pride in creating your very own professional looking sign.
A couple of days ahead of time head to the website to choose your class. We picked the Pick Your Own Project class because it gave us the opportunity to each pick what we wanted to do. After you pick your class you can also provide any customization requests that you’d like to have done to the design and who you want to sit with at the class. I had my last name made for my sign. When you arrive your blank board and stencil are there and ready to be made. All of the tools and materials are provided and an instructor is there to walk you through the process.
The first step we did was distressing our boards. Hammers and meat tenderizers were on the table for you to beat your board to distress it how you like. I thought it was a nice touch that ear plugs are provided in case it gets to loud. With about 15 people hammering it can get quite noisy.
When the distressing and sanding process is complete it is time to stain the board. The stain options are numerous and I like that each of us choose a different color. I picked ebony stain for my sign.
When the staining process is done and, depending on what board you pick, you have to assemble your board. In this step you get to use power tools! I did not pick a board that needed put together but my mom did. My sister in-law assisted my mom with this step. This made me want to pick a sign that needed assembled the next time we go.
After the assembling is done the instructor shows you how to apply your stencil and demonstrates how to put the paint on the board. There are tons of paint choices to pick from and cover a wide range of colors. The instructor offers suggestions as to what will look best with the stain that was picked for your board and how to make words stand out.
The whole process took about 3 hours and was an enjoyable experience. You can also purchase alcohol, pop, and water while you work at a small fee. We are all pleased with our finished projects and have already been thinking about what we would like to make next. This was a fantastic activity for girls night and I can’t wait to do it again.
