New Years Eve At Home With Kids!

The past couple of years my husband and I have celebrated New Years Eve with our boys at home. This year, now more than ever, most families will spend it at home together with the kiddos. I’ve made a list of what we do with the boys to celebrate and some other fun ideas.

1. Snack food for dinner.

We always opt to have snack type food for dinner that is out for the evening. This allows for the boys to eat when they like and make it a little laid back. We usually have pizza of some sort as an option as well. I’ve been able to purchase a Groupon to Mama Mia’s Take and Bake the past two years and it has been great. We pick up our pre-made take and bake pizza the day before and bring it home to make. It’s super tasty and enjoyed by us all! Tip: open up the Groupon app through Ibotta and you can earn money back on your Groupon purchase!

2. Give the kids a fun bath.

After our snack time we give the boys fun baths before we all get in pajamas and enjoy the evening. We have used Dollar Store glow sticks and fun bath bombs to make the New Years Eve baths for them fun. This year I found this great da bomb bath bomb at Target. It has confetti and a small prize. The boys are going to love it!

3.Play Games, watch movies, and get festive

We love to play board games and watch a movie or two to pass the time until it is our countdown to New Years.

This year local small shop owners are offering countdown to midnight kits to help keep the kiddos entertained.

Packaged Parties Columbus has an adorable Countdown Kit that includes 5 hours worth of activities.

Young Wild Balloon Co. has a winter break balloon kit to provided hours of fun with the option to add on a cookie decorating kit!

While counting down and enjoying the evening we like to get some festive gear to wear and decorations. I picked these up in the Target Bullseye Spot.

4. Count down begins with kids fancy milk toast.

We do allow the boys to stay up until midnight, but if they are starting to get super tired or even cranky we say it’s midnight even if it’s not and start to countdown. How we get away with this is we do an early countdown using the kids countdown to New Years on Netflix. We turn on our Netflix, let the boys pick their favorite countdown, gather the noise makers and fancy milk toast, and get ready to ring in the new year! The boys have loved doing this each year and feeling special with their fancy milk.

I make the fancy milk toast by taking a glass and dipping it in frosting and then in sprinkles. Then you just fill with milk and add a fun straw. It is their way of feeling special and having a toast just for them.

I hope these tips help you to celebrate with your kiddos and I wish you a wonderful 2021!
